After two rounds of beta releases, we have decided to push the Camelizer live.  This means that both the Firefox and Chrome versions of the Camelizer are ready for public use, and that everyone should upgrade as soon as possible.  Why?  You’ll get back Amazon support, and in a redesigned interface that we think is much nicer.  You can read about the recent changes in detail here, here, and here.

It will take a few days for the reviewers at Mozilla to get the Firefox add-on added to their site but the Camelizer for Google Chrome is out now and ready for consumption.  Here are the links:

Since Mozilla is taking forever to review the Camelizer, here is a URL where you can download it from their site: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/14392/versions/ – the latest version is at the top of the list.

Remember!  Look at the bottom of your Firefox window for a Camel icon; this is how you access our price history charts in the new version of the Camelizer.

Today’s Camelizer updates are pretty much entirely the result of user feedback here on our blog.  Thank you all for helping us make it Super Deluxe!  Some of the changes were global (made to both browser extensions) while others were unique to each browser, so let’s start with the global changes and move on from there.

By the way, both download links were virus scanned before uploading and nothing was found.

Changes made to both Firefox and Chrome versions of the Camelizer

• Clicking the chart no longer opens a new (background) tab to the product page on our site.  This functionality has been replaced with a link below the chart, which opens in a new (foreground) tab, and should result in fewer errant clicks / duplicate tabs.  The text of this link will change randomly as we attempt to choose the best and most succinct way of describing what it does (takes you to the product page on our site); please leave your thoughts in the blog comments or in our forum.
• There is now a “Leave feedback” link beneath the chart as well which connects you to our Contact page.  Please use it to report bugs, request features, or just to chat with me about Camel farming in general.

The Camelizer for Chrome

This is one of your ideas.  Instead of our little Camel icon showing up on every website you visit, it now appears — inside the address bar rather than in the toolbar — only on the domains of the retailers we cover.  Should we go even further and make the icon appear only on product pages?  I can imagine arguments for both options but would really appreciate some user feedback.

The Camelizer for Firefox

• Added ‘x’ close button on the right side of the chart.  Click this and the Camelizer pane disappears.
• Switching to an unsupported tab will make the Camelizer hide itself.  Similarly, switching back to a tab which formerly had an open Camelizer pane will cause the pane to open.  Please let me know if this is annoying / doesn’t work as intended; it should be staying out of your way!

Remember that the Camel icon in the Firefox toolbar isn’t enabled by default.  Right click on the toolbar and click “Customize” to add it to your toolbar.

Tonight we launch a beta Google Chrome version of the Camelizer that brings back Amazon support!  Please install it and use it like you normally do, but remember that it is a test version, will likely have bugs, and most definitely lacks polish.

The Camelizer for Google Chrome works a bit differently than its Firefox counterpart, thanks to differences in how extensions work in the two browsers.  No matter, it is nothing to scoff at as seen in the following screenshot.

Just click the Camel icon on any supported retailer’s product pages and you will see a price history chart popup.  If you click the chart, a new tab will be opened to our site which shows more price history detail and gives you the opportunity to create price watches.

Install the Camelizer v1.3a for Google Chrome.  You might have to disable older versions first.

Please report any ideas or bugs or anything; I am always happy to read and respond to your feedback.

Addendum (by Nithya): To close the popup, you just have to click anywhere on the page outside the popup. It’s pretty easy and intuitive, but figured I’d mention it anyway since it’s different from the way it worked in the old camelizer. Clicking on the camelizer icon again does nothing as far as I can tell.
